In December 2023, I started my freelance copywriting journey on LinkedIn.
Within 3 months I had 10k weekly views, 3k followers, 6 leads every day, and 3 digital products.
Life was going great.
I was making more than I ever did. LinkedIn was my fairy godmother, and I was loving it all so much.
Then the biggest PLOT TWIST CAME!!
I woke up one day and found out my LinkedIn app was logged out of my phone, it wasn’t a big deal.
Until I put in my credentials and it told me MY ACCOUNT IS DEACTIVATED.
My heart started the big thumps, my palms sweaty and my mind was screaming: nope, no, nooo with the hope that this can be fixed.
Long story short, LinkedIn banned my account for reasons that they still want to keep top secret.
Despite my 80 emails to them, they didn’t tell me “WHAT RULES I VIOLATED”
Because probably the country’s security depends on it, duhh.
Did I cry? YUP, A LOT.
My mind was spiraling, I had lost everything I happily created in a matter of 24 hours and I had nothing left.
Well, ALMOST.
You see the only good thing my dumb brain did was creating 3 random digital products.
LinkedIn Bio guide
LinkedIn 30-day post templates
How to write LinkedIn posts to Get clients (guide)
Creating these products had built an email list for me unintentionally.
A small list of 50 people whom I could talk to directly and tell what was happening to my hard work.
A small list of people to whom I marketed my services and they bought them.
Whatever kind of social service you use, accept the fact that they have all the right to close, alter, and manage your profile.
You are dependent on them for your views and monetization.
But why stay dependent?
When you can have your own audience that is yours forever unless they opt out (don’t spam them).
If you are anyone (doesn’t matter who as long as you are a human) who is planning to create an income out of the Internet,
YOU MUST HAVE AN AUDIENCE.
YOUR OWN AUDIENCE.
PERMANENT ONE!
Your email list is the backbone of your business.
When you have an email list you can easily send your subscribers different emails with your own digital products or even affiliate links.
The more leads you have, the more opportunity to make sales.
So, how do you grow your email list and, in turn, your audience?
Just follow these easy steps:
1. Create a Squeeze Page to Grow Your List
First up, you need a squeeze page—a page where leads can join your email list by entering their email address.
I have my squeeze pages built on systeme.io, it’s my favourite pick.
Sometimes, people need a little nudge—they’re giving you their precious email address, so it’s only fair they get something in return.
That’s where a value proposition comes in. This is a free offer that gives value to the customer.
It could be a video, a PDF, or any other free content you’ve got ready.
You don’t even have to create anything from scratch, you can share collections of different content.
you can share a playlist of useful videos you have created (from YouTube)
you can put your Pinterest boards (which can help your audience) as freebie too
Think of it as a teaser to get them excited about what your business can offer.
For example, if you’re a fitness trainer, your value proposition could be a 21-day fitness guide.
Once they’ve filled out the opt-in form, they’re sent to the second page—a thank you page.
But here’s the thing: a squeeze page won’t do much if people don’t know how to find it.
So you have to make it discoverable.
2. Publish Free Content, Always Adding a Call-to-Action to Visit Your Squeeze Page
This strategy involves using free content to attract your leads.
While you’ve got their attention, slip in a link to your squeeze page by cleverly placing it in your content. (don’t force it on your audience)
Let’s say you’re a fitness trainer, and your value proposition on your squeeze page is a guide to lose 10 pounds in 6 weeks.
Simply add something like,
“Click here to download my guide on how to lose 10 pounds in 6 weeks”
in each of your blog articles.
No blog? No problem!
You can drop it into a Facebook post, YouTube video caption, or even your Instagram bio.
Just make sure the CTA button actually links to your squeeze page.
Otherwise, you might end up with frustrated leads furiously clicking on a dead link—a situation nobody wants!
Now, this may seem like a small and simple task, but trust me, the impact is huge.
This step gives you organic traffic—yep, that means free traffic. And even better, it’s qualified traffic. That means you’re getting visitors who are more likely to take action.
Now, let’s be real—you’re not going to sell to every single person who subscribes to your list.
In fact, even the best email lists only have a top conversion rate of about 15%.
But by optimizing your list with qualified, organic traffic, you can hit that 15% conversion rate, and trust me, that’s more than enough when you’re bringing in tons of traffic.
Building your list this way is super effective, but it’s going to take some time, so hang in there.
This method is all about the long game. To keep your numbers on the rise, you’ll need to adopt a consistent mindset—which brings us to the next step.
3. Have a Consistent Publication Schedule
You’ve probably heard people say, “Consistency is key!” And guess what? They’re right.
A lot of folks can post content every day for a week, but only a few can keep up a weekly posting schedule for a whole year.
This is what separates successful businesses from the rest.
But let’s be clear: a consistent publishing schedule isn’t some magic trick that will skyrocket your business overnight.
Posting content once a week will, however, help you find your voice, figure out what works for you, and attract new leads that you can convert into customers.
Sometimes, slow and steady really does win the race. Your persistent hard work will pay off. Just make sure all your content is top-notch and valuable to your leads.
You might be thinking, “But if I give away my best content for free, what can I sell?”
The free content is meant to provide tons of value and help your leads. This is different from your product, which is designed to deliver results.
If you’re not sure what kind of content to publish, or if you’ve hit a creative block, here are two go-to types of content you can always rely on:
How-to content—guaranteed to deliver loads of value.
Inspirational content—like case studies, stories, or interviews that show your leads it’s possible to achieve results.
Lastly, to keep track of your progress and growth, focus on the number of new opt-ins per day. This is super important!
No matter whatever way you are using to make money online, the biggest thing that you need is “Audience”.
If you don’t have an audience, you cannot generate a user based income.
Email lists are the most valuable digital asset that you can start building right now.
Because the money that comes from email lists is always above other traffic sources.
I hope this was valuable to you, incase you can’t figure out things on your own. You can always send me a text.
